Professor McTague's research centers on the reproduction of inequality; the organizational and institutional contexts that provide opportunities for social change; and the processes by which people individually resist and collectively change systems of race, class and gender inequality. She has published research on race and gender segregation in the workplace and the effects of plant closings on women of color and their families in the rural U.S. south. Dr. McTague is currently involved in several research projects, including a qualitative study of a union organizing campaign at an ethical corporation and methodological strategies for interviewing middle school kids about inequality. She received a Rutgers Research Fellowship to study the relationship between unions and employee ownership. She teaches courses on qualitative analysis, sociology of gender, sociology of work, introductory sociology, research methods and supervises the Applied Sociology Internship Program. Dr. McTague was an EMU Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) faculty fellow in 2012, and has since taught several AS-L courses. She lives in Ypsilanti with her partner, two dogs and a cat and enjoys knitting, crocheting, sewing and all things crafty.
